London, February 11. Scott, the Now Zealand pedestrian, has defeated Hancock, of England, in a twelve hours' walking match. Scott registed 64 miles in the time, bub Hancock did not finish, retiring after going 43 miles.
London, February 13. The tribes on the Indian frontier are reported to have captured several of the British forts there.
London, February 13. Eight wolves, which had been delivered at Sanger's menagerie yesterday, broke loose and devoured one of the horses. After a great deal of difficulty they were re-captured.
Londox, February 13. The sculling match for the championship of England was rowed on the Thames to - clay beween Ross and Bubear, and resulted in a victory for Koss by four lengths. Time, 23min 13sec. Ross led throughout, and won easily.
London, February 13. The Rev. Hugh Price Hughes, M.A., "Wesleyan minister in charge of the West End Mission, preaching in one of the city churches, denounced Colonel Hughes-Hallett, and expressed surprise that he has not been expelled from the House of Commons and from the army. The clubs should also refuse him admittance. The rev. gentleman expressed the opinion that gross immorality of the ; nature which Colonel Hughes-Hallett had been guilty of should disqualify any member found guilty of the charge from taking his seat in the House of Commons.
London, February 11. The recent speech of the Marquis of Salisbury has caused an excellent impression on the Continent. Sir James Fergusson, Cinder-Secre-tary for Foreign Affairs, in reply to a question, said that England was not pledged to offer military support to Italy or any other Power. The Copper King have at last arranged to take over the copper mines of Calumet and Heata and Co., on Lake Superior, Michigan, U.S. For a long time this Company successfully withstood the efforts made by the speculators to get them to reduce the output of copper pro rata, in order to raise the price of metal in the market. As they are the largest producers in America, and as their mines are said to be the richest in the world, the success of the negotiations of the copper ring in these acquiring the control of the mines has caused not a little sensation in commercial circles. The Prince of Wales is proceeding to San Kemo on a visit to his brother-in-law the Crown Prince of Germany. The address-in-ieply to the Queen's Speech has been adopted by the House of Lords. The Queen's Speech has been delivered. The forecast cabled yesterday is accurate. Paris, February 14. The Chamber of Deputies having rejected the vote of 20,000,000 francs for military operations in Tonquin, M. Tirard, while refusing to evocate, the country promised to economise the. expenditure and reduce the vote, whereupon it was passed. M. Faure informed the Chamber of Deputies that 1,234 convicts had been sent to New Caledonia and Cayenne doripg the year 1886.
Pabis, February 11, It is believed that the French Government are collecting 300 conviott for shipment to Ne w Caledonia. Mr Gladstone returned from Canner laet evening.
