London, February 4. Lord Abercorn, who was a member of the deputation of Irish landowners which waited on Lord Salisbury to-day, said that many of the landlords in Ireland were on the verge of starvation, and owing to the state of Ireland their properties were quite unsaleable.
London, February 3. The Countess of Kingston and Colonel O'Callaghan have arranged the rents of their Irish tenants so as to mitigate the hardships and sufferings they are now labouring under.
London, February 5. The Blue Spur Mining Company (Otago) has been registered with a capital of £130,000.
London, February^ A deputation of Irish landowners to-day waited on Lord Salisbury, asking that they should receive from the Government some assurance of finality in the matter of Irish land legislation.- They urged that under the present continual changes they suffered heavy losses, for which they claimed they should be recompensed by the State. The deputation also complained bitterly of the working of the Land Commission. The Premier replied that the deputation had his entire sympathy, and promised that the Cabinet would fully consider their representations, and make inquiry into the workings of the Commission.
Dublin, February 3. In accepting the honourof thefreedom of the city of Dublin^ Mr John Morley ridiculed the settling of the Home Rule question by counting purses instead of heads. The policy of Lord Salisbury's Government compelled defiance thereof, and coercion had utterly failed. There would be no peace in Ireland until popular Home Eule had been conceded"

OBrien and Dillon have left on a visit to Marseilles for the benefit of their health. The Bight Hon. Anthony Mundella, presiding afc a meeting of the New Zealand Mercantile and Agency Company, referred to the existing commercial depression, and said he thought that as far as the colonies were concerned they had touched the lowest point of depression, and were now beginning to rise again. New Zealand already was resuming her former activity and prosperity.
