TREATMENT OF FOWLS, DURING MOULTIFG.
In answer to the questions' as to what food , i* best for poultry during the 'moulting/period, and what is the best tonic to mix with theirdrinking water during that time, a number of poultry breeders send, replies which are published in the California Gaekler Some of those are hereto appended. i (1) Wheat, wheat bran in which is a good supply of shorts or middlings, with Borne ' cracked corn ; a more liberal supply of meat than at other times ; keep a good supply of ' cracked bone before them all the time during* moult. (2)*Douglass mixture for the water ; once a week put in a few drops of tincture* iron instead of the mixture. E. 0. Clapp.
I do not change ray feed during themoulting season. During pleasant weather I give greens mixed with middlings and corn meal (cold) for the morning meal, m little meat during the day, and wheat at night. During cold or rainy weather I give the same feed in the morning hot, and corn in the evening. Douglass mixture is the best preparation I know of for the drinking water. A. L. CARSON.
It is nob necessary to jrut anythingin the drinking water for fowls during their moulting season. What they require is good, clear water, and as great a change or variety of food as can be . procured for them. If it is thought to be necessary to put anything in their drinking water, let' it be a little sulphate of iron r (copperas). C. H. Neal.
(1) It does not matter co much what you feed during the " moult" if the diet is fenerousand varied andof goodqualityof its md. Good food, clean water, and cleanliness are the essentials. (2) Where fowls are not sick it is folly to doctor their drinkingwater. I have come to this conclusion after years of experience. I have not used stimulants or condiments of any kind for a year, and have had less ailments than ever before. L. J. Watkins.
