SERIOUS ATTACK ON A WIFE. Sydney, January 25.
A telegram from Goulburn states that Mr R. K. Stephens, District Engineer fo r Railways, was taken into custody on Saturday. It is said ho is of unsound 'mind, but drink is alleged to be at thebottom of the matter. He resides near the hospital at Goulburn, and early on Saturday morning he climbed over the fence which divides his place from the hospital yard,' and ran aboutr the yard brandishing a carving-knife. Later, on he attacked his wife, knocking her down and trampling* upon her. , She now lies in a critical condition.
