THE LORDS AND THE HONARARIUM.
AN EXPLANATION.
Tbe Hon. R. Pharnzyn writes as follows to the " New Zealand Times" this morning :— "Sir, — Referring to the paragraph in the •^fimts-.'. in which it is stated that the gentlemen who drew the £25 honorarium, did so by way of protest against the Parliamentary Honorarium and 'Privileges Act passed la&t session, and refuse to refund for the same reason, I beg to say that so far as I am concerned I signed the voucher 'simply because I was requested to do so, of the Legislative Council having certified to its correctness. Not having been asked to refund, I cannot .have refused tovdo so, and as I approve of the Act and supported it on the broad ground that it substitutes payment of expenses for of members, I have no wish to protest against it, though, in common with many, others, I do Aqt consider it an ideally perfect piece of legislation. — I am, etc., ~ * ; \n*R*OBEKT'PIiABAZYN,\ n *R*0BEKT 'PliABAZYN, M.L.C."
