FLOATING THE NEW ERA GOLD. MINING COMPANY.

PROPOSALS BY A GLASGOW SYNDICATE.

At the Warden's Court, Te Aroha, on Tuesday last, Mr John Abbott obtained protection of the New Era Battery and especial claim for a further period of three months. This New Era property, which includes some of the best known claims in the TeAroha district, is now being offered in Great Britain by Mr Peter Fergusson, of Wairongomai, and with excellent prospects of success. This gentleman left Auckland six months ago, passed through the United States of America and garnered all the information requisite for the economic reduction of quartz on the most scientific and improved principles, and a full report will be submitted by him to the authorities in New Zealand on Ms return. On arrival in England Mr Fergusson so far ingratiated himself into the good opinion of experts that one of their number placed at his disposal free of charge a commodious suite of rooms in Gracechurch-street. From this centre Mr Fergusson distributed 2,000 or 3,000 copies of the "Handbook of "New 1 Zealand. After a, vigorous canvass in London with respect to ' the floating of a company to Work this' New Era property, his efforts appeared to be abortive, mainly in consequence of the receipt of the financial statement of New Zealand and tho information that the Bank of New Zealand hadpaid no dividend. These circnmstancos were drastically reviewed in several of the financial papers; and rendered all such pro.posals as that which Mr'Ferguason had in hand malodorous. His. labour appeared for a time to be labour in vain, but, nothing' daunted, he visited all the great manu* factoring centres, distributing informal tion -relative to i New Zealand, always keeping his main object in view, At length, being introduced to a Scotch syndicate, in Glasgow, he appears to have made a most favourable impression, and a telegram has been received in this city desiixng that a parcel of quartz, say 10 or 20 tons, should be sent to Glasgow for reduction. Mr Fergusson also advises that an expert would come here in order to investigate the btate of the New Era property. Last week Mr Gibson, a Melbourne gentleman, came to Auckland in harmony with instructions and went through the claims and battery, critically examining " the whole of ihe '] machinery and other appliances necessary for reducing the ore by the dry process. He appeared , to be thoroughly satisfied and highly pleased with, the connec- ' tions and mode of tramways, .which can, ,be utilised x for delivering quartz at >the battery. ,He also approved of ' tbd very efficient Mr Fergusson appears sanguine of floating theNewEra Company in Glasgow, .^nd the syndicate previously referred to nave expressed willingness to find, &50,000 to work the mines, j the present 'proprietors to be remunerated.' in paid-up, s^res. : '■r "'" ' ; % f , From Auckland Star. !
