In the coyri.e ol his speech at Liverpool, the Marquis of Salisbury said the Government were resolutely endeavouring to disperse the. depression in Ire.land,and he believed that ;he dawn of a new era of prosperity was near at hand*. I|e was. of opinion that the maintenance of giganticstanding armies and uncertain national feelings were elements of great danger in Europe. The position- was rather better just now, and the fact that the rulers were devoting every energy to secure peace justified a hope bf its maintenance in the future.
