Heakn, with his trainer, George Cummins, arrived in Sydney by the s.B. Wakatipu on the evening of the 20th inst., and intends taking part in the Centennial Regatta at i Grafton. The champion sculler of New i Zealand was in good health when he reached Sydney, and when the Wakatipu left the ! climate had not affected him, as was the caso when he visited New South Wales Borne years ago. The' " Sydney Morning Herald " says he looks to be powerful, and in all probability will be heard of in aquatic circles in that colony before many weeks. In the Handicap Outrigger Race (All-comers) Hearn will meet several good oarsmen. The following are the competitors and handicaps : — E. Hanlan, scratch ; C. Nelson, 3£ longths ; W. Hearn, 4J lengths; H. Searele, 7* lengths. A few hours after our representative had landed in Sydney, he received a challenge from Hanlan to row in best and best boats for £200 aside, and in course of conversation with an ''Evening .News" reporter he stated that he wished it understood that he had not come to Australia to represent New Zealand in the Centennial Regatta, and would not be able to row any private races until it was over. Should time permit afterwards, he might be induced to meet one or two local men.
