The da\s amusement wound up with a dance in the school room, which was cleared for the occasion nnd there were about 30 couples present. The music was supplied by AU-min Shaw, Wai lace and Morgan, and Mr tiiady fulfilled the duties of M.O. very efficiently. Doring the evening the proceedings were enlivened by Mr and Mrs White, Mr Morgan and other.*, who contributed several popular song*, and Miss White dancea a hornpipe in lirst class Btyle. On Monday la«t Con3table Mitchell proceeded to Hikutia where ho arrested a young man named John MeConnell, bushinn n, on a charge of embezzling the sum £3 U lOd, being the amount of an order entiustcd to his eiro by Mr W. Fagan, biibh contractor, Hikntia. The accused, who wa& brought before Mr N. Kenny, J.P. \va«s remnnded on bail till last Wednesday morning, when he again appeared to ana'wei the charge before H. A. Stratford, Esq., K.M. i'lie prospector, who is a witness in the case lluinplu-eys v. Mcßrinn now pending in the Supreme Court) Auckland, sent u wire to say that he could not attend, and his Worship adjourned the hearing of the case till to-morrow at Thames. The accused being admitted to bail in two suritios of £10 each, and himself in £20.
