ANGLO-AUSTRALIAN CRICKET. Sydney, November 28.
The match, Vevnon's eleven v. eleven of Sydney, was continued to-day. The weather was fine, and the play good, but there was only a poor attendance of spectators. With a score of 280 to their credit for the loss of five wickets, the Englishmen continued heir first innings, and succeeded in putting together a total of 340 before all were disposed of. In addition to the individul scores already reported, Peel contributed 54, Ncwfcon3O Vernon 3, Rawlin 4, Beamont 2, and Atterwell (not out) 13. The local team followed on, and whon time was called had scored 186 for two wickets toward which McDonald contributed 112, Bannerman 8, Moses (not out) 47, and Afyen (not out) 17 ; extras 2.
Lord Dekby on the Depression in Agriculture.—The Earl of Derby presided at the luncheon ot the Manchester and Liverpool Agricultural Socioty at Manchester last month, and spoke of the severe losses which had been sustained by landowners. He estimated that not lesa than £300,000,000 had been lost by the landowning classes, and said that tho piinoipal cause of the present state of things was foreign competition. Parliament would never re-establish Protection, but still the Legislature could do much for the farraor, and some good might be effected by reducing the burden of rates and equalising railway charges.
