DRAUGHTS ITEMS.
Wright, of Boston, Mass., has accepted the challenge of Isaiah Barker, brother of the American champion, to a match of 16 games, for a stake of 50 dols. Wright would have preferred a match of 30 games for 200 dols. Thk Canadian Champion. — Mr WFleming, the champion player of the Dominion, who defeated Mr Kelly in their late contest, is a native of Canada, and is about 45 years of age. About 20 years ago he was a much valued contributor of games and positions to the " Turf," but his business at that time prevented his continuance and for the past 15 years ho dropped out of sight of the players He has again " come to the fore," and having won the title of " champion," we trust he will keep himself conspicuously before tho draught players of America. — Turf, Field, and Farm. The Melbourne "Leader," in writing of the champion's play, state? : " Mr Wyllies was truly an exhibition of draughts ; the way he finished some of the games fairly opened the eyes of some of the local players amidst astonishment. Some of the players would play on when all hopes were gone on purpose to see a beautiful finish, and in some cases they were not disappointed." An old Glasgow expert, Mr J. Busby, now of Boston, Mass. , still holds the New England Checker Association Medal. He was x'ecently challenged for it by Mr C. Burrill, and the result was a draw, with the score—Busby, 1 ; Burrill, 1 j drawn, 8 games.
