Hotstein-Friesian Cattle.
Haying been asked what was the general appearance of the Holstein, or more properly Friesian cattle, Aye this month give a sketch of a cu\v of this breed. The engra\ing represents a well known animal of the Aggie family celebrated amongst Ameucan breeders of Holsteins. Below we print the sworn statement of a breeding firm in Syracuse, New York, which Avas published some time back in the Rural New Yorker
This statement gives the milk and butter record of two two - year - old Holstein heifers. Albino 2d, H. H. B. 3,500, dropped her first calf April 7, 1885, being then two years one month and 23 days old. Her record commenced on the morning of April 11, 1885, and ended on the evening of April 10, 1886, just 365 days. During this time she gave 18,366 pounds two ounces of milk, and at the end of her daily record was higher than at the beginning. From the morning of May 5, 1885, to the evening of May 6, 1886, one year, she gave 18,462 pounds one ounce, surpaseing by 715 pounds 15 ounces the famous two-year-o!d record of Aggie 2d, which was 17,716 pounds two ounces, and she "was some months older than Albino 2d when her record began. Several well known Holstein-Friesian men, such as Mr S. Hoxie, Dudley Miller, etc., tested her on special occasions during the trial, and her yield was always wonderful for an aminal of her age. These gentlemen testify under oath to her performances. We intend to give further nformation concerning these cattle in subeequent numbers of The Farmer.
