The Gold discovery at Pariri. (BY TELEGRAPH.-O WN CORESPONDENT .) Thames, this day.
Some time since I mentioned that small flakes of gold had been frequently found by settlers at Puiri in the gizzards of geese and ducks killed for the table, and it is this fact that induced Messrs Bedford and Wright to prospect the l'anges behind the village of Puiri. The reef discovered by the prospectors is three miles from the village. It is very rich. J3hows gold freely and the assay value is 40 ounces per ton. Messrs Bedford and Wright have registered the claim, and posted the necessary notices. Several claims have been pegged out adjoining the prospectors. Mr John Leydon, auctioneer, of Auckland, is said to have worked a rich gold leader in the vicinity of Puriri nearly 20 years ago. There is plenty of jbjmber and good water power, and if the djscp^ry turns out "all right," it can be v/grjjed very cheaply,
