Poultry cratohings.
Creve Cceursat the Paris Si iow. —At the last poultry show hold in Paris we note the statement in an English contemporary that the Creves were a conspicuous feature of the exhibition, there having been no less than fifty-five pens shown of this excellent breed both for laying and table purposes. The prix d'honnetir, or champion prize, for the best pen in the show was awarded to a pen of these fowls, although Houdans also were, as usual, exhibited in great numbers. A novelty in the Creve exhibits was a pair of Andalusian or slate- coloured birds of this biecd, and we are told uot at all bad specimens either. Feeding Young Chickens. —A young chicken has a small stomach and digests ita food very quickly. It therefore requires food " a little and often. " A chicken three or four years old will only take fifteen, grains of food at a meal, and loz. of cora or oatmeal will feed thirty of the little* creatures, which are quite as apt to gorge themselves as any other animal, and should, be fed with caution. The food should be' given every two hourp. It is a good plan, to have a feeding-board for the chickens which the hen cannot reach, and feed her with corn, as when fed with the hen the food cannot be apportioned for the chicks. The frequent diarrhoea which destroys so. many young chickens is due to over-feeding, and it is therefore wise to have some arrangement by which the food can be regulated. Coarse oatmeal, crushed wheat, and cracked corn, with some chopped meat occasionally, make excellent feeding for, chickens.
