The German's Capacity for Lager.
To-day, "Sedan Day" will be kepb with' due solemnity all over Germany. In Berlin and its neijrhboiu-hootl great preparations have been made by several proprietors for the entertainment of Warrior Societies, &c. As matters stand, there does not seem any ground for fear that this day will lose any of its claims on the enthusiasm of the nation ; and tho amount of beer then consumed will certainly surprise those who read the statistics afterwards. At the same time this does not imply drunkenness. The weather is hot ; the beer is cool and refreshing ; and tho Teuton, male and female alike, though a thirsty soul, is not given to intemperance. An idea of the quantity consumed on holidays by large assemblies may bo gathered from the amount of beer put away at the Exhibition Gardens last) Sunday. 18,000 visitors passed through the turnstile on that day, and the 180 waiters who were occupied in serving this multitude handed to them a total of 70,000 litres of beer- 122,500 English pints — which is nearly an average of seven pints a head '.—"Daily Telegraph."
