OHINEMURI. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

MAKITOTO. Tin- survey of th « prospectors cl u'm was completed on Tuesday last by Mr Lindsay •Jackson, who figures tho area out at 61 acre-*, which i^ more than double the quantity of ground applied for, und now comes the question how will the balance be ul-ottt-d. A man named Snell has laid u phiint in the Warden's Uouit for the Bin plus giound and this together with Humphreys pi. lint against the prospectors will be hoard on tho 20inst., when it is to bo hoped the whole business will bo satisfactorily settled. Pending the settlemeiit of tho above mentioned litigation there is no work going on i n the mine, but all the preliminaries *n the way of building a blacksmith's nliop, &c. are being arranged by Mr J. 11. Moore, who took charge of tho mine on Monday last. Surveys are proceeding upon one or two other claims, but otherwise there is nothing of impoitanco to chronicle ; nor indeed is there likely to be till aftei tho healing of the different cusos in tho Warden's Court on the 20th inst. The Auckland Herald endeavoured to throw the onus oi all the dolay in connection with the granting of titles to tho claims here on the Warden, whereas the delay is partly due to tho difficulties with which the ci untry is clothed. The track leading from the Waipahiki streams to the " Junction, " is now in ;i very dilapidated condition, and unless some repairs are speedily effected, accidents are inevitable. Ido not know who is to blame for this very undesirable state of affairs, but I do know that it does not redound to the credit of either of the local governing bodies, who might long ere this have brought pressure to bear on the Mines Department to obtain money for its improvement.

WHANGAMATA. A number of practical men have visited the new find in this district during tho week, and they are till of opinion that it ia likely to lead up to important rosults. In the meantime however no work is being done, and there is not likely to be much accomplished until tho surveys of the different claims now marked off have boon completed.

W A 1 11 I. A genoral cleaning up took place at tlio Martha battery on Saturday last, with the following results; — Martha Extended, Goz. 19dwts.; Stevenson and party, Iributens, IDoz. liSdwte,; McDanough and party, tributers, 17 o«. 2 dwta., retorted gold respectively. The above returns were obtained from the treatment of several large parcels} of crushing dirt.
