CONFERENCE ON GOLDFIELD MATTERS.
Some days ago circulars were sent out by the Auckland Brokers' Association inviting the newly elected members of the House of Representatives for this provincial district to meet the brokers and other gentlemen interested in mining in the province of Auckland with a view to discussing matters of urgent moment to the goldfisld. The meeting is about to commence at the Chamber of Commerce rooms as wo go to press, and as the following resolutions passed by the committee of the Brokers' Association will in all probability be submitted, we give them now to indicate the nature of the business to be discussed. (1) Resolved that a sum of £300 be asked for in orcler to enable the Drainage Board to complete purchase of the pump, and to snake necessary alterations to machines for their more economic working — say the substitution of ample expansion engine for the present one, thus sa\ing a large outlay in full. Note — If drainage were stopped it would mean moie than 600 men out of work. (2) Resolved that a sum of £2,000 be asked for, in order to carry on boring operations, with a viow to test the low levels of the Thames goldlield, say at a depth of 1,000 feet from the surface. (3) Resolved that a sum of £4,500 be asked for to cut a pack-horf>e track along the main range, and crocs tracks from this at various points, to enabbe the miners to prospect the Thames Peninsnla. (4) Resolved that a further grant of £500 be a?ked on account of the Thames School of Mines and that the expenditure of these varipus stuns of money be under the control of a Committee to be chosen from the members of the Chamber of Commerce and Brokers' Association, and of which Committee the Warden should be a member. — Auckland "Star."
