TOWN BOARD.
A spoci.il moeiing of <lie Te Aroha Town Board, adjourned from the previous week, was held on Saturday evening 1 17th ulfc., to consider the reply of Mr Miller, solicitor, to questions submitted to him in connection with, rating matters. The members present were Messrs Friuicr (chairman pro tern) Bobso,n, and Hotchin. At a previous meeting oi th,c Board the desirability of adopting the Rating Act, ISB2, wa3 discussed but doubts were then entertained ns to whether that Act could be brought into operation within a reasonable perio 1,. .an I it was resolved to obtain legal advice thereupon. Mr Miller's reply was to the effect that the Board coull not under the Act of 1882 strike a rate before the 3 1st of Miareh nej^t, but that if the rate had to. be struck before that date it could be •lone under the Act of 1876, and by taking speedy measures the Board might, with the assistance of the judgo. of the Assessment Court, adopt that Act.
