Wonderful Escape From Instant Death. Wellington, Sept. 19.
ALARMING ACCIDENT.
A YbuTii named George Fisher, son of the Wellington politician of that name' narrowly escaped a terrible death yesterday. As he was oiling some machinery in the Government Printing Office, his apron caught, and he was drawn round the shaft for fully three minutes. With wonderful presence of mind he twisted his arms and legs around the shaft and preventod himself from striking against the roof of the engine house. After being taken round the shaft a great number of times, he fell to the ground perfectly naked, except that he still retained his collar, nectie, boots and stockings— every garment having been 1 orn off. Singular to relate, he has escaped with only a few bruises, but will be confined to his room for several jj a yy g — his nervous system having received a severe shock.
The Chinese Government has compensated the owners of graves on the line of railroad between Taku and Tientsin. The desecration of graves has been the great obstacle hitherto to railway construction in China, but this is overcomo by Uie power of the almighty dollar.
