Frozen HEcat At the beginning of last week the frozen mutton market was tinner, and .showed a rising tendency, lmb by Thursday things >veio dull again. The tendency of the holiday seabon,^ now commencing, i^ to re^tiiet the demand. The total number ot frozen sheep at present in London is about 70,000 colonial and 30,900 "Rher Plate. Theie are also some 21,000 New Zealand lambs. Of the carcases that arrived in Apiil 3,400 aye atill uusold. Cunenl rates — New Zealand mutton, 2s 4d to 2s Sd ; New Zealand lamb, 3s to 3b 6d ; Falkland Island, 2s 2d to 2s 4d ; Kher ri«ito,2& 4d ; Scotch. 4s 4d to 4s B<l ; English (w ethers), 4b to 4s 6d ; English (ewes), 3s 4d to 3s 6d. A hue neu steel-built steamer, especially consti acted for the purpose ot c.urying iio/t-n meat between Aubtialia and New Zealand and this country, was launched by Swan and Hunter at Wallscnd on the 28th. She was built to the oidcr of Turnbull, Iklarhn, and Co., of Glasgow, is 355 ft. in length, 48ft. bieadth, and will usury 5,000 tons dead-weight. The refrigerating maehineiy (Lightfoot'-* patent) is of the latent and most .approved style, and there is excellent accommodation for MDme 50 saloon passengers. The \ essel was christened the Fituhhiie, and will be commanded by Captain W. A. Millar, late of the Eldcrslie.
