This bottcfe was thrown overboard tv&xa on board (Uere the pape^f is damaged in the opening; looks likct the woi'd "^awjne") ]3ukc of Edinburgh, in latitude 42 S., longitude 160 E. Sli-wild this botetfe be picked \\}\ plea«o r^^-j,-o^t to the pablic press, in orJcr that the, ss* of ocean cjsuvrents may be determined* — C'hkistopher. Wflcu, master, bound to> Nowcastle, ~K®w South Wale?. All welU** The posifck>n of the ship vahen the battle was thrown ovc-board appears to have- been about midway between Tasmania aud, NewZealand bub it is oxtrensejy doubtful if tha experiment throws any $ight on i}\& set of ocean currents, as no q»o Knows in what or how many directions, the bottle may have travailed during tfoopast eighteen years. When found, the paper insido the bottle M'aa very damp having had no ofchor profcOGtion than an culinary cork. The writing, however,is perfectly legible, save the portion that was torn in unfolding the paper. Mr W. E. Hay» of the Star office, has got the paper, and vouches for the genuineness of the find. — Auckland Star.
