THAMES HARBOUR BOARD.
On Tuesday lar-t the monthly meeting of (ho Harbour ]soanl wns held in the Borough Chambers. Present — Messrs Carpenter (in the Chair), Wood, Smith, Walton, Bawdon, and Btoedman. Extension of Limits. — The llarbonrM aster reported :: — k< Dining tiie la&t nionlh I wont to L'aoioa as instructod, and inspected the various wharves. The Puke, or Junction whaif, is n very small structure 1 , and in very bad ropiir —in I net, it is only ouo M-iof piles oiu&t le tlio nvi-i hank, the fonder piles all gone, and th" i n o bands sticking' out in ihe way vif anything going" alongside To make a \ oil job of it, it would requite anothei tur of piles outside tho pnvvnl end, and ■ aider piles bolted up outside, with ft couple of posts on the river bank — one above an 1 one below the wlaif. The Junction Mill wharf is in fairly good repair, but would be considerably imptoved !>y a couple of mooriny piles one at fach corner, securely fass toned to the whaif. lam led to believe Viu\t the mill discharges its sawdust into the river. I think this is unwi.se, and should not be allowed. The Ohinemuri or Fraser'b whsuf, was in the first instance a very good an-l sound structure, but at the present time is very much knocked about and tin own out of shapo. The damage occuied during the Lite heavy freshes, and the wharf has been lifted at lea-<t 4ft at the outer end . . . This is the piincipal wh.uf. and mjiiip's innst attention, and 1 think could be repaired for about £1)0, while £20 spent between the other two wharves would effect all neeessaiy repaiis.' Petition from Fishermen.— Messrs R)lton, Payne, l^oddtsh, and ether fishermen petititmiul as follows :— (1.) 'J hat tho practice- of the sawmills depositing debris and sawdust in the creek i and river should be discontinued, as it had the effect of timing .iwjiy the fish and destroying the nets and .appliances of the fisherman ", (2.) That the charge for the licenses for the (Kshci man's wluiF ntShoitiaml should bo i educed from £1 to 10s ; and (3) That the law prohibiting tiie taking of flat-fish of less than nine inches in length should be removed, as some species of that fish never attain more than a length of six or seven inches, irrespective of age. —On tho motion of Mr Steeilman, it was resolved :— " That the Harbourmaster notify the owners of sawmills that they must discontinue puttir.g debris in the'ereeks and river, or if continued, they would be piosi'cuted." It was also decided not to make 'any reduction in the license fee, nor take any action re flatfish.
