THE QUEEN OF HAWAII.
Her Gift to Queen Victoria.
S\ys Vanity Fair. The Queen of Hawaii undoubtedly intended to pay our Queen and our nation a great national compliment by coming to be present at the Jubilee ; but undoubtedly the court officials find her Majesty somewhat of a white elephant (if I may be pardoned such a mis&tatement of colour), on their hands For instance, at Buckingham Palace, the King of Saxony was blandly informed by the court officials that he was requested to take the Queen of Hawaii in to supper. " The de\il lam !" brusquely replied his Majesty. " I'll see everybody first before 1 take a black woman in to supper." The King was accordingly assigned to the Queen of Belgians, and the Duke of Edinburgh had to sacrifice himself to the altar of patriotism. The sister of the Queen of Hawaii, Princess Lilokolani, is now styled the " Priness Lily of Killarney" by people who are helpless when they try to pronounce her name. The Queen of Hawaii lias presented to Queen Victoria a piece of work made entirely of the feathers of a very rare bird, from the Sandwich Islands. It appears that there are only two of these particular feathers in the biid, and it has taken somo thousands of feathers to make a wreath, which is the work of the Hawaiian Queen's own hand?. It has been mounted on royal blue plush sot in a frame of gold, with royal arms and the arms of the Queen of i Hawaii on either side, the whole being ! again surrounded by a border of royal blue set with golden stars with eight points, representing the eight islands of the Sandwich [ group. Above is the royal crown on a ! cushion, set with diamonds.
