Opening of the Waratali Monastery.

The opening ceremony c$ the Wavatah Roman Catholic Monastery finished late this afternoon, and the train did not pet l?ack here until 4.50. The occasion was a , imposing demonstration of ecclesiastical pomp. The company o£ distinguished ecclesiastics, who went up by special train, were accompanied by a large

body of lay members of the Roman Catholic community, among whom was Mr Justice Faucett. The Cardinal, the Aichbishop, and other prelates were formally received in the vestibule by the Father Rector of tho Redemptorisb'Monastory. The Cardinal and, other dignitaries went thiough the numerous rooms, sprinkling holy water in every one. > This ceremony occupied a long time. Pontifical high mu*s was afterwaids celebrated at a temporary altar, fitted magnificently, on the spacious balcony. Dr. Torreggiani, Bishop of Aimidale, officiated as celebrant. Tho bermon pleached by Father S. Cnmmingrf was eloquent, impressive, and highly suited to the occasion. A collection was then made, amounting, with donations, to LI, OOO, including L3O additional from the Cardinal to complete the LI ,000.
