A Strange Adve nture.
Whkx tho Dayton train pulled out of the Richmond (Ind.) depot Mrs Johnson and her four children, of Little Rock, Ark., sat in tho sleeper en route to Fittbburg. Close to Dayton Conductor Charley Mider, in passing through the train, met ]\lr3 Johnson's little daughter Mamie, aged -ibout 9 years. Tho child had stepped to tho platform of the ladies' coach three carriage lengths from where her mother was in the sleeper, and the conductor was horrified to see the little one about to spring out into the darkness. By a quick movement he caught her and brought her back. " What do you want out here ?" inquired the conductor. "I am thirsty and want a drink of water," sue replied. The conductor looko 1 \arply at the • child, and to hii ..e found her fast asleep, in which c\.. ation she had safely passed from one car to another, though the train was running nearly iifty miles an hour. He led the child back to the sleeper, where fche awakened with a start and began to scream for her mother. Mrs Johnson hud not missed the child, and when the conductor related what had happened she nearly fainted.
