A Harrowing Scene. FIRE IN A TENEMENT HOUSE-IN-MATES JUMPING TO THEIR DEATH.
A fire broke out in a tenement house in Oxford-streeb, London, on June 23rd, and the flames spread so rapidly tliafc several
inmates .*vere unable to make their escape. Frightful scenes were witnessed by an enmwous*erowd of people attracted to the spot. Oue youoh jumped from the top story t,to ft. he giound and was instantly killed. Hie mother followed, striking upon the railing in front of the house and rebounding o» the hands of the crowd. iUipt<her .wQiian appeared at a window holding a child in her arms. A moment , laisar she fell backwards into the blaza Her charrcdixatnains were afterwards found. |
