Sierra Leone. FRENCH ENCRO ACHMENTS UPON TERRITORY CLOSE TO THE BRITISH PROTECTORATE.
In the House of Common^ on June 20th, Sir Hem y Holland, Secretary of State for the Colonies, leplying to ill- Howard, said that Sir Samuel Ecme, Governor of Sierra Leone, had informed tho Government that; a eonfeienee, held between tho Fiench and nati\ es, had resulted in the hoisting of the French flag at 13ariboo,onthoG imbia Riveiv While not under a British protectorate, he .said Bariboo was -within the sphere of British influence, and the natives were under treaty obligations to England. The establishment of a French protectorate would \ux\ c an important bearing on British intlnence in that district. Sir Henry said that despatches Avere being exchanged between the British and Fiench Governments in legarcl to tho matter.
