OHINEMURI. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Paeroa, Friday.

t:jio waitoa kuhxu. My » .ittent.on has b en called to a report which ai>pcarcu in 3 our hist weeks i.ssue, of a meeting of t atep:iyers licKl recently in the Waitoa Hiding, and tit which a series of resolutions condemnatory of the borrowing proposals of tho Ohinenniri County Council were curried unanimously. With that part of the report it is not my present pui pose 10 deal, but 1 have been requested to criticise the accompanying remarks of youi correspondent who endeavoured to ilraw a most one-sided comparison between the rateable value and representation of tho Waitoa Hiding, and that of the Karau-n-ahake and Waitekauri Hidings of the County of Ohinemuri. He stated that two last mentioned Rulings were not entitled to four members inasmuch as the ra f es derivable therefrom only amounted to £'S0 per annum whilst the rates obtainable from the first mentioned Riding amounted to £80, and upon those he contended that Waitoa is entitled to as much representation as ihe other two ridings put together. I am afraid that your correspondent, whoever he may be, has got a good deal to learn with respect to County finances, otherwise he never would have penned the above mentioned statement. Rates, as I take it mean revenue Irani whatever source it may be derived, and that bciimr so the Ridings of Karangahake and WaitekaiU'i have within the last 12 months, contributed moie money towards the general County fund than the ordinary annual rate derivable from the Waitoa Riding will amount to during the ensuing ten years, and if the wiiter in question wants a verification of my statement let him devote a quarter of an hour to the perusal of tho balance sheet published by the County for tho last financial y« nr. In Fact, Uit were not for the revenue returns from the above mentioned goldlields Riding's, the Council might put tho shutters up without further delay, for the ordinary rates are not equal to paying the salaries of tho officials required to manage the county affairs.

THE COMING ELECTION. Mr A. J. Cadimn, sitting member for Coromandel, arrived liere on Saturday last for the purpose of making a personal canvass of the district preparatory to addressing the electors at all the different centres of population in support of Ins. candidature, A numerously signed requisition has just been forwarded to Mr James Macky, who is out for Auckland City North, asking him to stand for the electorate in the goldfields interests, and it is expected that he will accede to the request. Mr T. M. Humphreys, who is out for the s.imo seat has announced his intention to address the electors to-morrow nigllt, and it is or the cards that Mr A.

L A T E U. Mr T. M. Humphreys has notified his intention to retire from tlio Coroimmlcl contest, Mr James M ick.iy intends to contest the Coronuimlol scat, and has retired fioai Ciiy Xoith.
