Karangahake Mines. Karangahake.

Mammoth. — As this claim is now in process of being floated on the London market a biief description may be interesting to some of cur readers. It is situated on the western slope of the main range, and covers a surface area of 97 acres, it is bounded northerly by the Waibauheta river, easterly by the Kenihvorth Company's mine, and upon all other sides by unoccupied ground, and embraces the claims orignally known as the Victoria, Antiquary, Talisman and Waverley. Although this ground has passed thiough the hands of a good number of persons since the early day 3 of the field, it remained for the present proprietors to unearth several well-defined lodes varying from 2 feet to 4 feet in thickness, and the follow ing is a table of the assays made for the information of the owners :—: —

Tbo above are the average rosulfs obtained from 2 tons ore broken out from the different reefs, and taken Home by Mr McUandlish, who has been intrusted with the floating of the Company, and who landed in London en the 9th of June last. This gentleman has already had considerable experience of mining matters in America, where ho purchased several gold and silver mines on behalf of an English syndicate, and a& they have all turned out fairly well, he expects to have no difficulty whatever in securing the requisito funds for the development of his present venture.

Man is not apt to fall clown and worship the golden calf unless ho has some ho^c of becoming tho calf's owner.
