MEETING OF WAITOA RATEPAYERS. (From a Correspondent. )
A meeting of soidi'is of the Upper portion of the Waitoa Riding, Ohmomiin Cou-ity, \vus held on Monday la«t, July lit;), at the residence of Mr C. B. Edwards, haviui» lu'on conrenoil for the pm pose of taking into consi leration the representation of the County and also_ the borrowing proposals of the County. Mr C B. Edwards, chairniHii, stated the purpose for winch the meeting had been convened, and a lengthy discussion en-mri, during which a very strong feeling was manifested at the treatment the Wnitoa Killing had received at the hand of the County Council. The following resolutions were then passed : I Proposed by Mr J. McCormick : 1. That the settlers of th 3 Upper portion of the Waitoa Riding protest against being made in any way responsible for any loan raised by the present Council ; which as at present constituted does not fairly represent the ratepayers, demand readjustment of ; and that each riding be made responsible for its own borrowing. Seconded by Mr F. Scott, and carried unanimously. Proposed by Mr A. Bowler : 2. That a committee be appointed to interview Mr J. B. Whyte, and request him, if re-elected to do all in his power to oppose the borrowing of the Ohineinuri County Loan ; the committee to consist of Messrs Strange, Edwards, Melon, and Bowler. Seconded by Mr Strange, and 'carried nem con. Proposed by Mr Mellon : 3. That our Representative in the Council support the resolutions passed at this meeting to the utmost of his ability. Seconded by Mr F. Scott, and carried nem con. Our correspondent adds : — The settlers of this distr'ct have just grounds for their complaints against the County Council, who have ignored their duty by not readjusting the representation of the County at the proper time, as provided for by section 46 of the Counties Act, which says : " The Council shall, on some day in March preceding the expiration of the term of office of the Councillors, liold a meeting for the purpose of C3nsidering whether the representation of the different ridings requires readjustment, and if it be found that talcing into consideration the number of ratepayers and rateable value, the representation of any riding or ridings is insufficient, shall alter the representation in such way that the representation of the separate iid ings, may,
