On the forenoon of July 2Lst he will throw open hib theatre to as many children of the ra^ed people of London as can bo squeezed inf-o it, and he will perform for Lheir benefit " The Merchant, of Venice. " Tlie choice of the play is not the least happy part of the scheme. Both the plot and underplot of " The Merchant of Vcnieo '' go straight home to the comprehension and sympathy of childhood.
A Napier paper states that at the recent meeting of tho HawkoV Bay Gun Club '•Brusher" Woods, the well-known horseman, caused som'j a:nu«oniont. He [)ulled both triggers at once when firing, killing his bird, and nearly throwing him* to the ground.
