THE NEW BATTLE-FIELDS. How The Boundaries are Altered. Wellington, July 6.

Tiu:r.k have been many changes in the eldcfcoral boundaries in adjusting the districts to the quota of population, resulting in a number of electorates in the North Island being increa.sud by three, and in the Middle Island decreased by the Mine number, the number now being respectively thirty-nine and fifty-two, 01 in all ninety-one for the colony. The decrease in Middle Island has been effected by making 1 one electorate less in the group of West Coast, Nelson, and Marl borough electorates, and two less in the Canterbury and Otago group?. In the North Island two additional electorates have been given to Wellington, Taranaki, and Hawke's Bay group of electoral districts and one to Auckland group. The alterations and adjustments induced by these changes ha\ c neces?saiily so affected the boundaries as to render some of the old names of the electorates no longer applicable or descriptive. The following names have therefore been discarded : — Auckland East, Wellington South, Wairarapa South, Wairarapa North, Picton, Waimea, Stamnore, Coleridge, Wakanui, Geraldine, Moeraki, Waikouaiti. The new names are — Auckland Central, Ponsonby, Wooclville, Masterton, Wairarapa, Wellington East, Wellington South and suburbs, Waimea, Picton, Linwood, Rangitata, Waihemo, Waikaia. Tlie electorates which remain as they were are : Auckland West, Napier, Nel&on, Hokitika, Waivau, Clui&tchurch, Christchurch North and South, Dunedin East, Roslin and Wallace.

Fraiiidin Korth Ha* been extended northwards by bha addition of Tamaki Riding, and curtailed in the south by the exclusion of Papakura town district, and that portion of the Riding of Papakura south of the road running acioss from \Yairoa Post-office to the railway near the mouth of the Papakura istruam. It now contains the ridings of Tamaki Ilowick, and the whole of Otahuhu except a narrow strip alongside of the railway between Papakura Town District and the mouth of the Papakura stream. It contains, also the northern and eastern portions of Papakura Riding.

Franklin South has been increased by the addition of Papakura tcn\ n district and the Southern portion of Papakura Riding 1 , also by the inclusion of the settlement of Miranda. It lias been diminished in the South by the cutting off of Tuakau and the south eastern portion of Pukekohe Riding in Pukekohe parish between the Railway and the Waikato River which has been added to Waipa electorate.

Waipa is the old electorate with the addition of Tunkciu, and the subtraction of Cambridge West which has been added to Waikato, and of Tokano which has been added to Tauranga.

Waikato has been mci eased by the addition of Cambridge Wett and diminished by Te Avon a town district and Te Aroha Riding, both of which have been added to Tauranga, also by the small settlement of Miranda, added to Franklin South. The boundaries are : — On the North by the electovtf. district of Franklin South and the Frith of Thames, on the east by the Thames or Waihou River and native territory, on the south and west by the Waikato River and iucluding Cambridge West,

Thame3 Contains tho borough of Thames and the ridings of YVaiotahi and Kauerangai.
