OHINEMURI COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary monthly meeting of ilie above Council was held at P.ieroa on Saturday 2nd inst. Present : C-a Cock, (chairman) Corbott, Nicholls, Strange, Moore, and Butler. Minutes of (he previous meeting having been read and confirmed, correspondence was read and dealt with. Correspondence. — Outward, included letters to : The Colonial Treasurer, applying for £10 10s, Government subsidy for prospecting, due Messrs Mulligan and Reily. To Minister Public Works, forwarding 1 engineers estimate of damage done to County roads by the late floods, asking- that Government would assist in having the necessary repaiis effected, etc, and drawing attention to the heavy financial difficulties under which the Council was aheady labouiing in consequence oi award of the Government Auditor re assets and liabilities between Thames and Ohinemuri Counties, whereby a debt of £'2000 had to. be borne by the Inter County ; also directing attention to the fact that Ohinemuri was saddled with a liability of over £700 in connection with the Thames Hospital an 1 Charitable Aid Board, half of which £3GB lGs 8d had to be provided by the council. To Surveyor General requesting that the expenditure of £19 7s, available balance out of £100 grant from Government for Rangiora road be allowed to stand over until spring. To Mr T. M. Humphreys, solicitor and member of the Council, I'orwarding a list of accounts for rates still unpaid, and instructing him to take the necessary steps to sue the defaulters. Inward — Re Government subsidy of £200 towards completing tramway to Railey's Battery : The following communications wore read : Mines Department, Wellington, June 7th, 1877. To Chairman Ohinemnri County Council. Sir, — I enclose herewith for your information copy of a letter received from the Secretary of the Karangahake Quartz Reduction Works, forwarding an agreement signed by the Miner's at Karangahake, as between them and the rates for crushing at the company's works. I am further dircctel to point out that the agreement does not appear to have been signed by the managers of the soUß'iil companies specially interested in the works at Karangnhake. — I have, T: H. Moro signatnree would have been obtained but for the weather, which prevented a more extensive circuit being traversed, but every one to whom it was presented signed it. The chairman remarked there sveie some signatures on the agreement which had no business thore, and names not on that should have been. This question of proceeding with the construction of this tramway had been fully discussed by the Councillors in committee prior to the general meeting' of Council, and it was stated that the council had arrived at the following: decision : That in view of the limited means at the disposal of the Council,, tenders be invited for completing trie lower section of the line, (as far as the Crown, Imperial, etc.) wooden rails to be used, and that application be made to Government U> provide funds sufficient (or the completion of the line. It was further resolved that the agree'nmt be referred back toMr McGrucr (o hive the ".ignatuies oE mine manageis and mine owners attached. County Rolls —Mr Finlay wrote requesting that his name be struck off the valuation roll, and that of Messrs Phillips and »Son, to whom he had sold his piopertv, substituted. Resolved that tne request be acceded to. Mr 11. H. Adams wrote making .application to have his name placed on the valuation roll for propeity owned by him at Komata. Resolved that the request be acceded to. Damage to Roads by late storm. — From Cr WaUh to the chairman stating- that the lower main road to Karanijahnke had been quite blocked up by slips, etc., and he (Cr Walsh) had put on some men to have ifc cleared for tiaffic. From Cr Moore to the Chairman informing him that great damage had been done to the roids leading to, ami at Waihi, and asking that the matter be r.ttended. Prospecting subsidy. —From Government in reply to Councils request that £10 10s prospecting subsidy be paid, stating that it was necessary before the money could be paid that council show they had paid a like amount River Board. —From Messrs Devore and Coopar, solicitors, stating the petition for constitution if a River Board with respect to rivers within Ohinemuri county was quite in order. Faeroa Public Library. —From Mr J. Phillips, jun., Secretary Library Committee requesting an answer in reply to the committees application for a grant towards library funds. Resolved that an answer be sent stating the council had no funds that they could devote to such purpose at present. Storm water on Normanby road. — From a number of ratepayers drawing councils attention to tho great need of additional outlets to carry off storm water from Normandy road, Paeroa, estimated cost for box culvert, pipes, etc, £25. Referred to Board of Works. Extirpation of Gprae and Sweotbriar. —From several property holders and ratepayers requesting Council to bring into force clause 292 in Counties Act, for the extirpation of all furze and sweety übriar on County roads.
