Divorce in Berlin.

Statistics have jus>t been published on the subject of divorce in 13eJin. It appears that in ISBO the Land&ericht pronounced de«reo of divorce in 41 4 cases and later figures are-1881, 484; ISS2, 729; 1383, 788; and ISS4, 751; total of 3.107 divorces for five years. Of these 3,167 cases, 1,071 are attributable no infidelity, or 3IVB percent, of the whole ; to desertion, 817 (25 8 per cent.) : mutual consent, 746 (22 g 2 per cent.); while in. 166 ca^es divoi cc was granted on account of the heavy criminal punishment of tho respondents, ]47 on account of ill-treatment, 57 on account of wounded honour, 4l on account of anti--pathy on one side, 37 on account of illness, and so on. Of the marriages disannulled, 97 were of more than 25 years' duration ; but the bulk of the divorces fell to marriages of 2to 12 ycar>' duration, an especially large number falling to tho&e of from 7to 12 y«ir« In 348 cases (11 per cent.) the diftcvence between the ages of the divorced persons was moie than 10 yeai'S. In 1534 divorce was pronounced in 42 cases, in which the differences ranged from 11 to 15 years, 27 in which it was from 1G to 20, and 16 in which it was over 20 years. It is noteworthy that of the 3,167 divorces refevicd to 1,033 fell to tho independent artisan class, 722 to workpeople and journeymen, 688 to business people, 199 to officials, 195 to tho servant classes, 183 to the categories of artiotic and learned professions, and 28 10 the military order. As to religion, 2, ,"562 divorces were of ■profco-tants,, 14 of Catholics, 8 of Dissenters, and 26 of Jews.
