On the Wharf.

The Waverley Hotel was lighted in every window*, and coloured papers on the glass served to improve the effect. In the distance, the premises of the Auckland Freezing Company could be seen brilliantly lighted up, and at the Harbour Board Offices there was a handsome gas anchor over the principal entrance, whilst the interior of the building was profusely lighted. The vessels in port were gaily decorated with bunting, and the Union Company's fine steamer Mararoa was lighted with her electric light. Coloured lights wero displayed by various vessels, and rockets were sent up from the s.s. Mararoa and the ship Centurion.
