My Banker ! Who used to know mo in Hie street, And would my coming kindly greet Whene'er with him I chanced to meet ? My Banker ! Who thought my sphere I should entend, And gladly would " the needful" lend ? Who was, indeed, my warmest friend ? Rly B.mkei ! Who paid each cheque and met each bill, And urged on further outlay still, Said u Look to me for what you will ?" My Banker ! Who saw afar the coming storm ? Who bade me «ign a piinted form ? (It was, of course, " the merest form") My Banker! Who, when depression J gan to lower, Forsook one in that evil hour, Yet had one safely in his power? My Banker 1 i Who, now the clouds more daikly loom, Calls me into his private room, And fills my very soul with gloom ? My Banker! Who that had erstwhile talked and chaffed And.at my cautious fears had laughed, Now growls about my overdraft ? | My Banker I j Who naught of former kindness recks, Who dotli my spirit sorely vex By hinting at dishonored cheques ? My Banker ! Who is it haunts me night and day ? Who diives all joy in life away ? Who is it that I long to slay ? My Banker !
