LATEST OIIINEMUHI NEWS. IMPORTANT INFORMATION UB MINING MATTKHS. Paeroa, Last ftisjht. About six "\vooks ago Messrs. Phillips and Son, merchants here, wiotc to a iplativc who is a stockbroker on London Exchange, making enquiry about homo markets with a view to starting a purchase and shipping agency in this district, and asked their fnend to cable reply, which came to hand to-day. The contents of cablegram are of such a satisfactory nature th.it above mentioned firm have iinally determined upon opening an ore pui chasing agency in connection with their business, and they are prepared to make liberal advances upon all shipments consigned to their care. Some time since a parcel of stone from the Union mine at Waihi was forwarded to Australia for treatment by Messrs. New berry and Vautin, v and I have it on good authority that KJ cwt. of this Jot gave a return of £27 sterling. It was subjected to the above mentioned firms new chloridration process, which extracted 92 per cent, of assay value of gold and 84 per cent, of assay value of silver contained in the ore, and the cost of treatment was comparatively trifling. A plant to treat 30 tons per week could be erected in connection with the Martha battery at Waihi fo.i £400.

Thames, Last Night At a meeting of the Parawai Licensing Committee this afternoon, the application for renewal of license for the Railway Terminus Hotel (Mr O'Sullivan), was refused, while those for the Rob Roy (Mr Flett), and Bridge Inn were granted, the latter being conditional upon a new tenant being obtained by the owner. Adeline (Karangahnke).— The crushing of 22 tons of quartz at Hie Moanataiari Battery will not be finished until to-morrow morning.
LITEST FROM AUCKLAND. Auckland, Last Night. The Supreme Court was occupied all to-day hearing the case against Charles Henry Wight, charged with rape on u Maori at Komata, The case has not yet concluded.
BOARD OF EDUCATION. The Board of Education have resolved re the controversy about inspection of schools, that Inspectors be requested to report upon school syllabus ; also relative to drawing up a system by which uniformity may be obtained in examinations. The Educational Institute has forwarded a recommendation in favour of Longman's Headers.
SHAItEMARKET. There has been a slight inquiry for Bank shares. Gas nnd land mortgages at low prices, Tuupiri coal are wanted. There are sellers of most insurance stocks at market rates. MARKETS. The only alteration in the market quotations is in oats which are quoted at 2s 3d to 2s sd.
