The digestion and the appetite ara in> proved 1 by physical exeroise, on. account of the increased wasiey more rapid absorption, ■and greater. demand forfood ; but as- there is an increased flow, of .blood to^tlio stomach during digestion, in order to< supply more gastric juice, exercise right after a. meal-in-terferes with that process.^. Systematic exercise gives also tone to- the nervous system. Outdoor oxeroise gives.us better air, more light' and a different pres■sure of.tho atmosphere than our buildings contain. Out-of-town exercise is beneficial, as we 1 breath no impurities,- Avhich are float•ing'in tho air in thickly settled places. ►Swedish gymnastics, or so-called " move* ,ment cure," is an effort to. produce more active contoaction o£ the voluntary muscles and improve the nutrition of the same: Every school! ought to have a. properly arranged place and apparatus -for gymnastics, and for free exerciso of the" voluntary muscles ;,the teachei's and'i scholars can improve tHeir physical conditions, and havesystematic means by whiohjthe body will be developod to better usefulness and symmetry. The prcsont "roughiand* bumble sports" are more likely to bo injurious. Erasmus Wilson says : "In mind lies the great secret of beneficial exercise, and without it exercise is a misnomer and a fraud on, the constitution."' When the -mental culture and physical education are going hand in hand various crippled conditions^ of disease may ,be prevented, anda.mot'o vigorous people will exist:
