OHINEMURI. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) REVISION OF ELECTORAL ROLLS.

Paeroa, Friday. A sitting ot the Resident Magistrates Court was held in the Public Hall here on Tuesday last, for the purpose of revising the Electoral Rolls for the different Hidings in this County, H.A.Stratford, Esq., R.M., presiding. The County Council was represented by MrF. Cock (chairman), Messrs Shaw, Edwards, and Thorp Appeared to sustain objections made to tho names of certain persons appearing on the roll for Paeroa riding by virtue- of miners' rights. These objections, which were supported by the County Council, were at once over ruled by His Worship, who stated that holders of miners' rights were entitled to have their names placed on the roll of anyone riding within any County, whether gold field or not, provided their applications were sent in to the clerk of such County, prior to the 31st of March in each year. The only check upon the system was a. proviso that persons claiming to vo l ,e on the strength of their names appearing on the roll as holders of miners rights would have to satisfy the Returning Officer that they had been residents of the particular riding- for which they desired to exercise the'u vut'f, i'oia I'O'itijMious period of

two months prior to tho date of election, A considerable amount of misapprension existed with regard to property qualifications. No two persons could claim to have their names placed on the roll in respect of the same property, although they had both paid rates upon it. The owner rf tho fee simple of any property with in tho County could have his name placed upon the roll of such county provided he was not a defaulter in the matter of payment of rates, and that he had made his application in due form prior to the 31st March. Occupiers of land with not less than a half yearly tenancy could also claim to have their names placed on the roll upon compliance with similar conditions. Weekly tenants had no right whatever to have their claims recognised as electors of a County in respect of any land which they might have in their occupation, simply because they were liable to be turned out with one week's notice. His Worship commented on the apparently rather careless manner in which the rolls for the different ridings had been compiled. Applications from the following persons to have their names transferred from the roll for the Paeroa Riding to that of the Karangahake Hiding were granted : J. Biggs, E. Cameron, J. M. Chambers, C. A. Comes, Jun., N. Richards, H. White-head, A. Willis. George Carrick, J. Lock wood's name was substituted for that of T. E. Shaw, on the roll for the Paeroa Riding, as the owner of certaia allotments in the Paeroa township. Edwin Edwards and Mrs E. Edwards applied to have their names placed on the roll for tho Paeroa Riding in respect of allotments in Erasers' township granted. J W. Mulligan, L. McNamara Laviua Shaw, Patrick Burn 3, John Pennell, W. Grant, Carrol Nash, and Catherine Dunber. Patrick Sheehy made similar applications on behalf of D. McCaulfield, C. McCaulfield, M. Tally, J. OHara. These were all struolc out in consequence of the applications not having been sent in prior to the 31st Match last. Charles Rhodes and John McCombie applied to have their names retained on the roil for the Paeroa Riding. These applications were refused, on the ground that the applicants were only inoccupation of the laud for which they claim to have their names retained on the roll, as weekly tenants. An application from Edward Shaw to hare his name transferred from the Karrangahako to the Paeroa roll, was granted. Robt. Bryson, John Honstin, and Thomas Ritchie were struck off as absentees. J. H. Several alterations in tho spelling of Christian and surnames of persons were effected, and the names of a few deceased persons were struck off the diffient rolls. Some unimportant transfers from roll to roll took place, and tho Court then adjourned. There is no news o"f special importance to report from any of the mines. The crushing' for the Adeline now proceeding vi, tho Moanatairi battery, Thames, is showing up well on the plates, and a return of three to four ounces per ton is expected. The whole will probably have been put through by Tuesday next.

At tho Warden's Court, Thames, on Thursday the right to occupy th« Wei - come licensed holding, Karangabake, was sold to Mr Alex. Hogg", for L 2 2s.
