SALE OF MATAMATA.
We (Auckland Star) understand that Mr J. 0. Firth has soil nearly the a hole of the Matamata estate to a syndicate of English capitalists, who, we believe, intend to continue Mr Firth's policy of placing small settlers upon the block under advantageous conditions. The private residence, stock, and machinery have been disposed of along with the estate, and the only portion of the latter that has been reserved from sale is a small area around the hot springs. No particulars as to price, etc., have yet transpired, but at any rate the transaction lias been completed, and MatamatA has passed into other hands. It is to be hoped that its new proprietors wi'l do as much for it in the way of legitimate settlement and cultivation as Mr Firth has done.
