AN IRISH DEBATE. DISGRACEFUL SCENES IN THE HOUSE OF COMMONS. (SPECIAL.)

London, May 24. ,Exciting scenes were witnessed in the House of Commons last night, on the resumption of the discussion of the Crimes Bill in Committee. The cloture had to be applied three times, and finally the second clause of the bill was. adopted. The Parnellites used tremendous efforts to prevent the adoption of the clause, and heaped abuse on the Government supporters, stigmatising them as " cowards " and " assassins." Mr Ilealy invoked the Deity to reject theappeal of Conservatives for mercy at the judgment day. Dr. Chas. H. D. Tanner, member for Cork, called the Conservatives " damned cowards," for which remark he was compelled to apologise. The Parnellites claim a victory, although the clause was passed, the Government having postponed an important amendment. The " London Press " demand that Dr. Tanner should be severely punished for his misbehaviour to the Committee of the House of Commons.
