UP'ARDS.
A i'Ksky night was coming down As a youn« man tramped thro' a country town. In his list he clutched a tattered flay, And this hero motto was on the i\ig— " UpVirds ! " From under his old tile's battered brim His dark eye flashed like a taller glim ; He looked nor, to left, he looked riot to right, But continued to hoh.r with all his might, " Up'ards!" Throe times thro' windcis did he sec Tin co several families taKin' tea ; He binclt the cakes, but neve" swerved, Aud, as he dropped a tear, observed, " Uparda!" Says a cute old feller, " Young man, beware I Tii'oie's a rotten old pine tree fixed up therebiue as egi-.s [-> eggs, it'll fall on j ou head." Tne j ouny man only winked, and said, "Up aids!"" A nice girl hollorod out, " Stay, oh, stay, And you may marry me right away." A Low n his nose the te.irb did How. •" So ÜbO, i oung woman ; I m bound to go Up'ards !'* About that time the follerin' day .\. Slicker chanced to pab& that way, Wlu n lie Middenly thought he heard a coon A hollerin' out to a pensive toon, " Up'ards!" His ilog then rummaged and poked about, And soon lound out, without any doubt, The poor young man buued deep in the snow, Who carried the ilag with the nun motto, "Up'ards!" Tucked up to his chin in the wow, he lay In a rather uncomfortable sort o' way, And, tho' he was dead .is a.nj nail, Thib sound was borne upon the gale — " Up'ards!"
