Mules Breeding.

Tiik interesting writer of " Scraps " in the Live Stock J ournal ol March 11th, has the following on the subject of mules breeding : — Most persons interested in stock-breeding have heaidofthe mule at the Jardin dcs Plantes at Paris, which gave birth to two or three foals by a horse. The occurrence is, however, so rare that the following instances—taken out of the Chicago Live Stock Journal for February — deserve a notice : -"A Kansas subscriber (Mr John Higgins)," writo3 our American contemporary, " asks whether a female mulo has ever beon known to breed, and says that a neighbour of his claims to have seen in Ohio a mulo with a colt following her, which was .stated to be her foal." To this the editor of the Chicago paper replies ; " Four years ago a subscriber at Malan (U.S.A.) wrote as follows :— ' A friend of mine went with a company to California in ISSO. They had horses and mules, and among the former a stallion. This horse was seen to cover one of the mule-mares, which proved in foal, and had a foal in California, for which when a few weeks old an olfer of 500 dollars was refused. It reaeinbled a horse rather than a mulo. It was six months old when my friend returned. He was quite reliable.'" It would be a subject of ioterest to know what wa? the eventual fortune of the French mule-colts— whether they were, or were not, fertile inter vc, or with horses or asses.
