Formidable Vessels. LAUNCHING OF TWO CRUISERS FOR THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT
The new belted oruiae* Galatea, which is 300 feet long and 5,000 tons displacement when in fighting condition, was launched at Glat-go.v on March llfch. The engines are of the triple expansion type, working twin sorewß. She carries two nine and a quarter inch Armstrong guns, ten six inch guns of the same class, eight six and eight threepounder quick firing guns, and six torpedo impulse tubes. The engine's and steering gear are below the water line, which will be protected by steel belts. At Davenport the Serpent, a torpedo cruiser, was also launched. She is. 225 feet in length, and carries six dix-inch pivot gunß, eight three-pounders, two JNorden feldt and one seven pound gun. She is fitted with five torpedo tubes
