A serious accident happened to-day lo James Irvine, brother oL % railway* contractor for llikutai.'i section Thames Te Aroha. line. Ho was engaged working undcrno.ith an embankment, wlicn a mass ol'stufl! suddenly came away and buried Jiini, when ex'racted lie was 1 unconscious and conveyed to thu lin.spit.il, where lie retrained consciousness at G o'clock, two of his ribs and the chest bone are biokpn, but it is not known whether he has sustained any internal injuries.
