WAITOA. There is nothing now of importance lo chronicle regarding the find of auriferous deposit on Mr J. B. Smith's property. An assay made some days ago by Mr H. H. Adams, yielded at the rate of £9 13s per ton, whilst some other tests gave returns varying from 15s to £2 10s. Mr Smith is about to have the deposit tested in a systematic manner, and has for some days past had a number of men employed in trenching and sinking, in order to ascertain the area over which the deposit exists and to what depth, etc. The results so far go to provo that tho deposit is very extensive. The Minister of Mines has promised to personally inspect the deposit during his visit to Te Arolia. The find has caused those residing on adjacent properties to go out "prospecting" on a small scale.
