A CONTUMACIOUS PRIEST. Exciting Incident in Ireland. London, March 20 th.
Father Kelver, parish priest at Youghal, Cork, Ireland, has been arrested for refusing to appear in Dublin as a witness in a case againat a defaulting tenant. He was yesterday brought to Dublin. At all the towns and villages en route he received an ovation from the populace. On being brought before the Court in Dublin, he refused to answer questions, and was committed to prison for contempt of Court. A large crowd eecorted him to prison. In the House of Commons last night, the Irish members inveighed against the arrest of Father Kelver, and accused the Government of the wilful exasperation of the Irish people in order to justify coercion in Ireland. Mr Arthur Balfour, the new Irish Secretary, vehemently replied to the accusation, and declared that to the baneful agitation of the "Plan of campaign " was due the disorder in Ireland.
