A Startling Phenomenon. Eruption of a Volcano in the Russian Petroleum Field.
The inhabitants of Baku, the centre of the great Pvuesiau petroleum field, have been much alarmed over a subterranean explosion which shook the houses and caused considerable damage. At the same time a volcano burst out on the Lokbatan, 10 miles distant, from Baku. For two nights the volcano threw a column of fire and mud 350 feet high, illumioating the country for miles. The mud emitted during the eruption already lies from seven to fourteen ieet deep over a full square mile of country.
