TE AROHA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The usual monthly meeting of the above committee was held on Wednesday evening lust. Present : Messrs Dobson, Wilson, Ilott, Lavery, Mackio, Vause and Ahier. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from the Board of Education stating that the Board had , favourably considered the application for an additional pupil teacher, and one would be appointed as soon as possible. An application having been made to the committee that they would recommend Miss Baskett of Waiorongomai for the position, and this being the only application of the kind it was resolved that Miss Baskett bo recommended to the Board of Education for the position of extra teacher to To Aroha School, if found duly qualified. Night ►School. — Mr Marsdon, head teaciier, wrote stating that the wish had been frequently expressed that a night school be established. He was not prepared to undertake the additional work which this would entail himself, but he had a brother staging with him, who was willing to do so,and he would ask that the use of the schoolroom be granted for this purpose. Resolved that Mr Marsdon's application be granted. The head teacher in hia monthly report fetatel that the number on the roll was 14:6, and the average attendance 11G.8. Messrs Dobson and Ahier were appointed a visiting committee for the present month. Temperance Lesson 800k — X letter was read from the Board of Education stating that a certain timo in each weuk might now bo devoted to giving instruction on the subject of temperance if the committee gave instructions to tha'^ effect. Resolved that, as the election of a new committee was so near at hand, the matter be allowed to stand over for the present. Application from Mr John Lloyd for position of drill instructor to tiio vaiious schools in tins district. Letter received, no action taken. Several m.iftors of minor importance were referred to the visiting committee, with power to act.
