The Nigger and the Lawyer.
A coloured man once sued a neighbour for damages for the loss of his dog, which his neighbour had killed. The defendant wieaed to prove that the dog was a worthless cur, for whoso destruction no damages ought to be recorded. The attorney ior the defence one Sam Parker (coloured) to the witness-stand, whereupon the followiug conversution ensued : — "isam, did you know tbis dog that was killed by Mr Jones?'* " Yeeeah ; I war pussonally acquainted wit dat dog." " Well, tell the jury what kind of a dog he was." l< He war a biff yaller dog." "What was be good for?' " Weil, he wouldn'c hunt, an' he wouldn't do no guard duty ; he jea 1 lay round an' ate, Dat made 'om call 'im. what they did." "Yea. What did they call him?" « k Well, Efch, I don't want tor hurt yer feelin'p, eah, an'.I is mighty Sorry you ax mo dat, Bah ; but do lack is, dey call 'im ' Lawyer, 1 eah ! 5>
